Attraction guide
Dolmabahçe Palace about what you should know.
Dolmabahçe Palace was commissioned by Sultan Abdülmecid in 1856, when Topkapı Palace was no longer suited to the empire's modern needs.
Built right on the Bosphorus shore, the palace has 285 rooms, 43 halls, 14 tons of gold leaf and the world's largest Bohemian crystal chandelier (4.5 tons).
Atatürk passed away in one of the palace rooms on 10 November 1938 — the room is preserved as it was. Visits are guided; photography is restricted.
