Eyüp Sultan Mosque about what you should know.
Eyüp Sultan Mosque was built by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror in 1458 around the tomb of Khalid bin Zayd (Eyüp el-Ensari), a companion of the Prophet Muhammad who was martyred during the 670s siege of Constantinople.
It is one of Türkiye's most sacred sites and is especially favoured for circumcision ceremonies. Fridays and religious holidays draw huge crowds.
The cable car to Pierre Loti Hill starts here. The mosque is on the northern shore of the Golden Horn, about 6 km from Sultanahmet.
