Attraction guide
Galata Tower about what you should know.
Galata Tower was built in 1348 by Genoese merchants as a watchtower. It rises 67 metres, and its top floor offers panoramic views of the Bosphorus, the Golden Horn and the historic peninsula.
The Galata district is the densest cluster of art, cafés and boutique shops in Beyoğlu. The start of İstiklal Avenue is 500 m away; Karaköy ferry pier is 400 m downhill.
A modern lift now reaches the upper floors after the recent restoration, though the final 20 steps to the viewing deck are still climbed on foot.
