Galata Bridge

Galata Bridge crosses the Golden Horn between Eminönü and Karaköy. The current bridge is the fifth at this location; the earliest known crossing dates to the 6th century.

The upper deck carries pedestrians, the tram and motor traffic — and from morning until evening, hundreds of amateur anglers cast lines from its railings. The lower deck is entirely given over to fish restaurants.

It is among Istanbul's most photographed sights: the silhouette of Süleymaniye or the New Mosque behind, fishermen's rods in front, ferries crossing through the middle — the classic postcard view.
