İstiklal Avenue is Istanbul's most famous pedestrian street. It runs 1.4 km from Taksim Square down to Tünel Square.
Along the avenue you'll find historic passages (Çiçek Pasajı, Avrupa Pasajı), churches, the Pera Museum, cinemas and dozens of restaurants and bars. The historic red tram still runs.
Evenings are when the avenue is at its busiest; during Ramadan it tends to be quieter. The side streets (Asmalı Mescit, Cihangir) reward exploration.
