Grand Bazaar about what you should know.
The Grand Bazaar was founded under Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror between 1455 and 1461 and remains one of the world's oldest and largest covered markets.
Sixty-one streets and over 4,000 shops specialise in carpets, gold, antiques, leather and ceramics. Daily visitor numbers range between 250,000 and 400,000.
Bargaining is the local culture — it is normal to start at half the asking price. Vendors often offer Turkish coffee; you are not obliged to buy, but accepting is considered polite.
