Attraction guide
Ortaköy Mosque about what you should know.
Ortaköy Mosque (officially Büyük Mecidiye Mosque) was built by Sultan Abdülmecid in 1853. Its architecture is in the neo-Baroque style.
Its position right at the foot of the Bosphorus Bridge, on the water's edge, makes it one of Istanbul's most photographed buildings. The bridge and the mosque together form the most iconic Istanbul postcard.
Ortaköy Square is known for kumpir (stuffed baked potatoes), waffles and jewellery stalls. On Sundays it takes on a fair-like atmosphere.
