Rumeli Fortress about what you should know.
Rumeli Fortress was built by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror in 1452, before the siege of Constantinople, to cut off Byzantine reinforcements coming down the Bosphorus.
Completed in just 4 months and 16 days, the fortress sits at the Bosphorus's narrowest point (660 m) and, with Anadolu Fortress on the opposite shore, gave the Ottomans strategic control of the strait.
Today it serves as an exhibition space and open-air stage with panoramic Bosphorus views. It is walking distance from Bebek and a regular landmark on Bosphorus boat tours.
