Süleymaniye Mosque about what you should know.
Süleymaniye Mosque was built by the master architect Mimar Sinan for Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent between 1550 and 1557. It is among Sinan's most important works.
The mosque was designed as a complete külliye — medrese schools, library, hospital, caravanserai and tombs all forming one architectural ensemble. The tombs of Sultan Süleyman and Hürrem Sultan are in the back garden.
The rear terrace offers panoramic views of the Golden Horn and the historic peninsula — one of the best vantage points in Istanbul. The Grand Bazaar is a short walk away.
