Topkapı Palace was built by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror in the 1460s and served as the official residence of Ottoman sultans until 1856.
The palace consists of four courtyards, the Harem, the treasury, the chamber of sacred relics and gardens with panoramic Bosphorus views. Plan for 3–4 hours to see everything.
Harem and main palace tickets are sold separately. Booking online in advance is strongly recommended — summer queues at the gate can run 1–2 hours.
