How much to tip Istanbul taxi drivers
Tipping in Istanbul is appreciated, not expected. 5–10% or round up. Never tip if scammed. Updated 2026.
Tipping rules of thumb
Short ride (₺135–300)
Round up to next ₺10 or ₺20. ₺140 → ₺150.
Medium ride (₺300–800)
5% or round up to next ₺50. ₺580 → ₺600.
Airport / long ride
5–10% or ₺50–100 flat. If driver helps with heavy luggage, lean higher.
In-app (BiTaksi/iTaksi)
Optional in-app tip prompt after ride. Driver receives 100%.
When NOT to tip
- Meter was off the entire ride
- Driver tried any of the 15 documented scams
- Driver demanded "luggage fee" or refused trunk
- Took long-route to inflate the fare
- Refused card payment or tried currency switch (DCC)
