Taxi scam: Fake / Unlicensed Taxi (Korsan Taksi)
Unlicensed vehicles approach inside arrival halls offering 'cheap' or 'VIP' rides.
How it works
Tout approaches in IST/SAW arrivals before official rank. Car has no yellow paint, no taksimetre, no driver ID on dashboard.
Where it happens
IST International arrivals, SAW arrivals, Taksim Square at night, Sultanahmet.
Red flags
- Approached before reaching official rank
- Plate doesn't start with 34 T
- No yellow paint
- No meter visible
- Driver waves you over inside terminal
What to do — during
Refuse immediately. Walk to official rank outside terminal. Never enter the car.
What to do — after
Report to Tourism Police if you were detained or threatened. Photograph plate if possible.
