Taxi scam: Wrong-Destination Drop-Off
Driver drops you at a similarly-named hotel/shop where he gets commission.
How it works
You booked 'Hotel Istanbul.' Driver takes you to 'Hotel İstanbul Palace' (different, lower-quality, paying him commission). 'Yes, this is your hotel.'
Where it happens
Sultanahmet (many similarly-named hotels), Beyoğlu small hotels.
Red flags
- Driver doesn't ask for the exact address
- Pulls up at a place that doesn't match your booking name
- Insists 'this is it' without checking
What to do — during
Show pinned Google Maps location at start: 'Bu adres mi?' Confirm exact street and number on arrival before paying. Refuse to leave the cab until correct.
What to do — after
Walk to your actual hotel. Report driver to your hotel and IBB 153.
